Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.
– Martin Luther King, Jr.
Today, as we celebrate the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. – one of the world’s most influential human beings, a person who taught us so much about compassion, bravery, and the power of love to combat hate – we can’t help but think about the state of the country today, and about how the struggle for equal rights that he lent his eloquence and bravery to is still so far from over. In honor of Dr. King, and in the spirit of peaceful protest in the face of grave threats to human rights, we have decided to close the store on Saturday, January 21st, so that we can march in solidarity with the Women’s March on Washington. We will be marching with the Los Angeles chapter (more info on the march can be found here).
One of the privileges of being a small business is that we have never had to shy away from being vocal about what we believe in. Some people may call that an unsound business practice, but we call it being human. Behind every business is a human face, and we are not ashamed to show ours. We are a woman-owned and women-run business, and we proudly support hundreds of designers, artists and makers of all genders, colors, nationalities and walks of life. Today, this Saturday, and always, we stand in solidarity with women, with people of color, with the disenfranchised, with immigrants, with the LGBTQ community, with people from all faiths, with ALL of our fellow citizens. As a thank you to those who choose to march beside us, we are offering 20% off everything in the store on Sunday the 22nd. Just snap a photo of yourself at the march (in L.A., in D.C., or in any of the cities participating in the Women’s March) and show it to us on Sunday for the discount.
We will be open on Friday, January 20th, and if you’re looking for something to do that is guaranteed to be far removed from any inauguration coverage, we encourage you to pay us a visit and indulge in some retail therapy in a safe space. Your dollars will go to supporting a diverse group of creative and strong citizens. Plus, we still have some pretty great jewelry sales going on – 25% off select pieces in store and online, and a newly added 40% off section in store only!
In solidarity, strength, hope, community and love,
Fran, Holly, Alexa and Olivia
